Increasing longevity of life because of Better health management system, due to better medical technology, has resulted in the prolongation of life and longer life expectancy has lengthened the period of old age and consequently the length of old age care has increased. This has come at a time when the family system is undergoing rapid change. Westernization, urbanization and modernization have changed the family value system and economic compulsions are forcing children to move away to farther destinations. With the result a large number of older people are left out of the net of family care. Under such circumstances, the relevance of old age homes has become very important which in turn taking care of alternative arrangements for helping the old to find a place of rest in their later years.
Krishna Foundation Built the old age home with a lot of careful planning and most importantly sensitivity and imagination on the aging process and aging issues. The needs of older people are less predictable and more highly variable than those of younger generation. More over, we have taken into account the needs, problems and concerns of the potential residents who seek asylum in our “Krishnam” home, like their physiological needs, safety needs and psychological needs. WE have also kept in mind the five principles viz., Independence, care, participation, dignity and self-fulfillment.
We proposed and established to make the home for the old as cozy and comfortable as possible, a place where he could spend the last days in ways that would make him happy and contented. Therefore, We built and designed the Building to cater to the physical needs of the residents – sleep, rest, food, pure air, pure water and clean environment. Next comes safety needs: general house safety, avoidance of pollution, accident, abuse. Then comes the psychological needs: contact, experience, privacy, activity, togetherness. Krishnam is the answer for inner peace
